Susie Canda, a mother, grandmother, and web developer from Puna, is the creator behind Nanea TV, the first YouTube channel to combine ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi with 3D animation. Officially launched in 2023, the project was inspired by her oldest granddaughter — and by a desire to create something fun, local, and educational.
What started as a personal project quickly went viral, proving there is a wide audience for creative, accessible ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi resources. Today, Nanea TV offers colorful, animated videos that connect keiki and ʻohana across the pae ʻāina and beyond, showing how modern technology can help preserve Hawaiian language and culture for the next generation.
