About ʻŌiwi News
No ʻŌiwi, na ʻŌiwi.
ʻŌiwi News is a space to amplify ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) voices, stories, and perspectives. Launched in September 2025, we share news, culture, and storytelling rooted in our lāhui, our ʻāina, and our ea.
In a media landscape where Native Hawaiian issues are too often overlooked or misrepresented, ʻŌiwi News exists to make sure our stories are told, preserved, and accessible — not just for us today, but for the generations to come.
We connect our community with the stories that matter most to Hawaiʻi by bringing together reporting and current information from across the pae ʻāina and beyond. Every piece is summarized in clear, accessible language, always written in our own words, and always linked back to the original reporting. By doing so, we uplift local journalism while adding cultural context and perspective that grounds each story in our Hawaiian experience.
At its core, ʻŌiwi News is guided by kuleana: a responsibility to uplift ʻike, amplify voices, and keep our lāhui informed.
How We Work
- We credit our sources. Every story links directly to the original publisher and acknowledges the journalists who reported it.
- We write in our own words. Summaries are short and clear, never copied, and always encourage readers to explore the full article.
- We add value. Our coverage highlights the Native Hawaiian perspective, providing cultural and historical context that connects each story to the bigger picture of ea, ʻāina, and kaiāulu.
- We respect local journalism. We don’t replace or compete with original reporting — we amplify it. By driving readers to the source, we support the work of Hawaiʻi’s newsrooms.
- We stay accountable. If something needs correcting, we update promptly and transparently.
Our Commitment
ʻŌiwi News is more than an aggregator. We are a community resource guided by kuleana — a responsibility to uplift ʻike, amplify voices, and keep our lāhui informed.
