Hui! Welina mai i ka

No ʻŌiwi, na ʻŌiwi.

ʻŌiwi News is a space to amplify ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) voices, stories, and perspectives. Launched in September 2025, we share news, culture, and original storytelling rooted in our lāhui, our ʻāina, and our ea.

In a media landscape where Native Hawaiian issues are too often overlooked or misrepresented, ʻŌiwi News exists to make sure our stories are told, preserved, and made accessible — not just for us today, but for the generations to come.

Curate the news

We aggregate news stories important to ʻōiwi from trusted sources to give you a clear, accessible look at what’s happening across Hawaiʻi and the diaspora.

Create original content

From interviews to cultural features, we highlight the voices and perspectives that matter most to our lāhui.

Build kaiāulu

Just like nupepa of our kūpuna, we aspire to be more than a just news site. We’re a space for community and resource for learning, connecting, and engaging with Hawaiian culture and current events.

Our commitment

ʻŌiwi News will always keep aggregated news and cultural stories free to access. Knowledge should not be behind a paywall.

As we grow, we hope to offer:

  • A weekly email digest of top stories.
  • Member resources like a book club, ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi features, and deep-dive explainers. (Coming soon!)
  • ʻŌiwi News merch and collaborations with Hawaiian creators. (Coming soon!)

ʻIke i ke au nui me ke au iki.
Know the big currents and the little currents.
